Deer Hunting Season – First Hunt
The archery deer hunting season is underway and I am pretty excited. I went out for the first time last Saturday.
And I saw a few good looking deer. I didn’t get one, but my brother in law did. And I am really happy for him. Great day in the woods.
Looks like rain this saturday, so might just stay home and snooze. I can do this, because it is still early in the season.
My favorite time is RUT, then come rain, sleet, snow, hail, floods whatever – you can bet I will be in my tree.
Good luck to all!
Happy Hunting,
Paul
Review Your Whitetail Deer Hunting Season
The woods have become quiet again.
For many whitetail deer hunters, this is the time to think about the past hunting season. For me, this is a good time to review what went well and also think about the things that didn’t go so well.
I mentioned the importance of a hunting journal in a previous entry. So if you’ve been keeping one, now is the time to review.
For me, I like to sit back and relax over a glass of wine and review each hunt. I take a moment or two to analyze what I did right and what I did wrong. Like, how did I make that bad shot? What could I have done better? Was it the weather? Was it my positioning? Was it the smell of morning McDonald’s on my clothing that scared the trophy buck away?
It has taken me years to learn these hunting secrets. But the secret is, there are no secrets. Just experience. Often, it is the little things that make the biggest difference in your hunt. And even after close to 40+ years of experience, I am still learning.
Sit back, relax and go over your hunts.
When next season comes you will be ready to make changes that need to be made. Do this every season and you will become a better hunter. Trust me, doing this pays off.
In the near future I will be sharing pictures of my buck and tips on hunting gear.
Happy Hunting,
Paul
